Question Time on Climate ChangeWe held a question time event on Friday 15th September, 6:30 pm, Pilgrim Centre, Regent Circus, Swindon. Appearing on the panel were Swindon's two MPs Anne Snelgrove and Michael Wills, Leader of Swindon Borough Council Rod Bluh, climate scientist Julia Slingo and author and climate change campaigner Mark Lynas. Forest Festival 2006The theme of this year's Forest Festival on Saturday 2nd September was climate change, so Swindon Climate Action Network were there getting people to make climate promises. Photos and more information Swindon Strategic Partnership launch the Climate Change Action Plan 14th November 2006Four SCAN members were invited to attend the launch of the SSP Climate Change Action Plan. SSP is an alliance of Swindon Borough Council and public sector bodies such as education, health and police authorities as well as business and voluntary bodies. The Climate Action Plan represents a major commitment to climate change action as a central activity and guiding principle for decisions made about the future of Swindon. SCAN is actually embedded in the plan with a target for increasing its membership by 20%. Andy Parsons presented leader of the Council, Rod Bluh, with the 150 Climate Pledges SCAN has collected since August. We also did a fair bit of networking and made the Adver for the second day running . We have 4 hard copies of the plan or I can e-mail it to anyone interested (deb@swindonclimate.org.uk) "Let's Talk" event with David MilibandThe Secretary of State for the Environment came to New College on Monday 17th July, for a Labour Party "Let's Talk" event about environmental policy. The event was attended by around fifty people, including South Swindon's MP Anne Snelgrove, a number of Labour party members, a few councillors, and a small delegation from the Swindon Climate Action Network. Local Food Campaign LaunchThe Old Town Co-op on Friday 26th May was the place where we launched our local food directory . Local media were there as was Carrot WoMan from Big Barn. Read the full Press Release here. The Co-Op covered the launch here. Plans are now in hand for a new, updated Version 2!! Since then, the display boards have been to the Canal Walk and Wanborough Farmers' Markets , to the Old Town Festival on the Lawn and in Town Gardens, the Wanborough Show on August 19th and the Forest Festival back on the Lawn on September 2nd. Plenty of people stop by for a chat - Many people are aware of and concerned about climate change and the effects we are having, but feel powerless to make any difference. But you are not alone...together we can make a difference!! Spring Into Action7th-8th April 2006: We had a stall at the Spring into Action event, held in the town centre to promote a more active lifestyle. Lots of copies of our new local food directory (1.1MB pdf document) were given out. See the photos (and add yours if you took some).
