SCAN Campaigns

Transport Campaign

One of SCAN's main campaigns for 2008 is local transport. We have formed a coalition with other local groups and together have developed a community transport vision in response to Swindon Borough Council's '2030 - A Vision for Transport' document.

Ken's trip to Plymouth

SCAN founder memeber Ken Trennery will be celebrating the extension of free bus travel for the over-60s by making a journey to Plymouth - by regular service bus.  Ken is keen to promote the use of public transport:
"Being a BMW pensioner I can't say I'm anti-car.  My theme is to use the car less: walk or use public transport when possible"
By using the Traveline website ( http://www.traveline.org.uk ) he found that it was possible to travel the distance in a little over 9 hours, via Trowbridge, Wells, Taunton and Exeter.  He is planning to travel down on 3rd April and return a few days later via Bristol.  This will cost him nothing in fares with his new bus pass and his journey will have a minimal carbon footprint as he will be using regular service bus routes and will not be adding to traffic congestion.  Ken added: "It's an excellent scheme if you are not in a hurry!"

Local Food Campaign

Food makes up one of the biggest proportion of individual's total emissions. This is partly due to food miles, the emissions involved in getting the food from the field to your fridge.

SCAN has produced a Local Food Directory and is currently trying to expand this directory. There is a lot of scope for anyone interested in developing the Local Food Campaign. Please get in touch if you are interested.
