21 January 2010: ‏Swindon Civic Trust Talk - One Planet Living

We're consuming resources and polluting the planet at a level the earth cannot sustain. If everyone in the world consumed as many natural resources as the average person in the UK, we'd need three planets to support us.  So what would Swindon have to do to live sustainably?

Stephen Cairns from Swindon Borough Council's Planning Department will address this question on the evening of Thursday 21 January as part of Swindon Civic Trust's Events Programme.  He will concentrate on the implications of one planet living for new developments in Swindon and the infrastructure (eg district heating?) needed to support them.

With concerns about the failure to reach meaningful international agreement in Copenhagen and some local cynicism about how Swindon can turn the Council's desire to be a green exemplar into reality, this has the potential to be a very interesting talk with a lively discussion afterwards.

7.30 pm on Thursday 21 January 2010 at Heelis (the National Trust Central Office), Kemble Drive, Swindon.  Light refreshments served around  9.00 pm.

All are welcome to attend. Free to members of Swindon Civic Trust.  Non-members are invited to make a donation of £4 towards our costs.
