This talk will give an overview of the renewable power sector up to and beyond 2020 in light of the awaited government’s Renewable Energy Strategy.

On the day that the government of the Maldives held a cabinet meeting underwater to highlight the threat of climate change to their low-lying nation, and 50 days before December's crucial climate change summit in Copenhagen, SCAN supporters joined Swindon Churches Together and others at the Cenotaph in Swindon town centre to lobby South Swindon MP Anne Snelgrove as part of the Great Persuasion.

Age Of Stupid People's Premiere - 15th March 2009

Swindon Climate Action Network were proud to be involved in the people's premiere of Franny Armstrong's new film Age of Stupid. Around one hundred people filled one of the screens at the Empire cinema in Greenbridge to watch Pete Postlethwaite in a 2055 ravaged by runaway climate change, reviewing real documentary and news footage from the past and the present day, and asking "why didn't we stop climate change while we had the chance?".

On 15th October 2008, around 40 people crowded into the Friends Meeting House for Swindon Climate Action Network's monthly meeting. This month's speaker was cllr Peter Greenhalgh (Con, Freshbrook and Grange Park), SBC's lead member for highways, transport and strategic planning, answering questions about Swindon's transport vision, accompanied by a slideshow of photos taken on a recent fact-finding visit to the Netherlands. Leader of the council Rod Bluh (Con, Dorcan) was also there, albeit off-camera, and he fielded some of the questions.

Every year, Matt Holland and the nice folks at Lower Shaw Farm organise the Swindon Festival of Literature, and a wide variety of authors come to Swindon to talk about the books they have written. This year, Sunday 13th May was a day dedicated to the subject of climate change. Speakers included Mark Lynas, "Cartoon" Kate Evans and Tony Juniper.

The Great Global Warming Swindle - Debunked!

In March 2007, Channel Four screened a film entitled "The Great Global Warming Swindle". With convincing-looking charts and appearances from numerous talking heads, the film set out to show that man-made climate change is a myth, perpetrated by governments seeking an excuse to raise taxes, environmental extremists seeking to take ever more extreme positions and climate change researchers seeking their next grant. Whilst initally very convincing, a little research shows that the film is inaccurate, misleading, and little more than a propaganda piece.
